Kelly Mitchelmore BID, artist/designer

Kelly is a huge fan of supporting local and supporting the arts; believing that your community is only as good as you make it. She uses her art to promote, inspire, and uplift fellow artists.

From solo shows, group festivals and live painting events to mentorship’s and workshops Kelly believes in the power of positivity and enjoys a holistic approach to art encouraging it on all levels

Recently relocated from East Coast to West Coast , Kelly has experienced all of Canada and her love of this country is reflected in her dreamy land and seascapes. She paints standing and moves quickly to loud music, which has resulted in a quick dance break here and there.

Kelly paints in both acrylic and oil and mostly creates nature and scenic pieces using some brush but mostly painting knives and trowels. She prefers to paint on large stretched canvases or wooden panels using a heavy pallet of deep and intense colours and applying with layered technique. Not a fan of being confined or limited by structure, the shape and composition often form as she paints. This allows more freedom and a bond is formed between the artist and the work as they both go through the creation together. She is especially known for her moody coastal scenes and her love of red with her poppy series.

“I believe that art is a many faceted thing both tangible and unreachable at the same time. It can be a simple print that made you smile or an incredible masterpiece that made you cry – it touches all of us differently. That’s the magic. ”

Kelly has a Bachelor of Interior Design which has aided her with colour theory and perspective when creating her pieces. She also served over 14 years in the Canadian Armed Forces, and she attributes her time in the Navy as her inspiration and love for painting water and poppies. She shows throughout Canada and you can see her current collection on her website www.kellymitchelmore.ca fb: Kmitchelmore Insta: Kelly_Mitchelmore

” I paint because I can’t imagine not painting. And if I am lucky enough to support myself while doing something I can’t imagine not doing – well that’s the dream right ? – thank you all for allowing me to become the artist I hope to be :)”
