Kelly Mitchelmore BID, artist/designer.

Born and raised in Nova Scotia Kelly loves water, nature and a good laugh. Painting professionally for over 25 years her work can be found throughout Canada and her signature poppy series is celebrated by East Coast legions and Veterans A Canadian Navy veteran herself, Kelly enjoys reaching out to local events believing you are only as strong as your community and that support is a constant circle you need to contribute to in order to receive back.

Kelly uses both acrylic and oil switching constantly from knife to brush which leads to some of paintings being heavily textured. Her style can vary from soft and moody to bold and loud. The one constant is her need in capturing the moment – “that” moment. Sometimes done through light and sometimes through composition, but it is the focal point of her creations.

From spearheading festivals and creating art bursaries to hosting workshops or running shows and galleries Kelly has been a strong contributor to all platforms of art approaching it in a holistic style.

Her Bachelor of Interior Design has enabled a deeper understanding of colour theory and composition while still maintaining an unstructured flow to her work. Her recent move from Nova Scotia to British Columbia has given new inspiration and excitement to her new art journey on Vancouver Island.
